Daya Trust, a Delhi-based charitable organisation, in collaboration with National Foundation for Communal Harmony organised cultural programmes and a seminar on ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas Sabka Vishwas to achieve Loka Samastha Sukhino Bhavanthu to bring about communal harmony on February 21 at Mayur Vihar Phase III, Delhi.
In the day-long programme, women and children showcased their talents. Sports and cultural competitions were held and prizes for the winners were distributed. More than 200 children participated in various events.
After the competitions, women and children took part in various cultural programmes. Thiruvanthira, Kaikottikali and Karakattom were performed by women.
The chief guest at the seminar Malayalam Laurate Prof Madhusoodanan Nair, winner of this year’s Sahithya Akademi award spoke about the importance of promoting mother tongue and Sanskrit. According to him, Indians have forsaken their profound and rich languages and adopting foreign languages and lifestyles. He also emphasised on the need to promote Indian culture to find solutions to various problems facing the world today.
Speaking at the event, National Commission for Minorities Shri George Kurian spoke on the greatness of Indian culture which promoted not only love for human beings but also all living beings. He said Indian culture teaches us to live in harmony with nature.
Smt Diloni Manuel, noted philanthropist, said India culture never preached exclusivism. Quoting Swami Vivekananda, she said there is no equivalent for ‘exclusivity’ in Indian language. She also spoke about the importance of sewa – concern for less fortunate among us.
Shri Prasannan Pillai said the new generation should be made aware of the richness of Indian culture. Great saints like Sree Narayana Guru and Swami Vivekananda had strived hard to re-establish the cultural core of India.
G Sreedathan, Editor of Indus Scrolls, spoke on the erosion of values in the society. The values which held us together, which enabled us to thrive as a great civilization is facing an existential threat.
