A Kiran trainer aircraft belonging to the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in an open field at Bhogapura village in Chamrajnagar district, Karnataka. The incident occurred on Thursday morning when the aircraft was on a routine training sortie after taking off from the air force station in Bengaluru.
Fortunately, the two pilots on board, identified as Tejpal and Bhumika, managed to eject safely from the aircraft before it crashed. They sustained minor injuries, but no casualties were reported in the village or among the local residents.
Upon receiving the news, senior district officials and a team from the IAF promptly reached the crash site. The authorities initiated a court of inquiry to determine the cause of the accident and gather relevant information to prevent similar incidents in the future.
In a statement, the IAF confirmed the incident and provided reassurance regarding the pilots’ safety. “A Kiran trainer aircraft of the IAF crashed near Chamrajnagar, Karnataka today, while on a routine training sortie. Both aircrew ejected safely. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident,” the IAF tweeted.
