Malayali badminton star HS Prannoy won for India in the quarterfinals and semi-finals. The team of Satvik and Chirag won in the doubles. In the final, Kidambi Srikanth defeated Jonathan Christie 21-15, 11-8.

India had finished second in Group C behind Chinese Taipei to qualify for the knockout stage, where they came up on top against strong Malaysian and Danish teams in the quarter-finals and semifinals, respectively. U Vimal Kumar is the coach of the Indian team.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian team on its historic achievement. ‘The Indian badminton team has scripted history! The entire nation is elated by India winning the Thomas Cup! Congratulations to our accomplished team and best wishes to them for their future endeavours. This win will motivate so many upcoming sportspersons,’ the PM wrote on Twitter.
