A priest of Little Flower Ferona Church in Kanyakumari district has been arrested by a special investigation team of the police after an obscene video of him with a woman went viral. The accused, Benedict Anto (29), was arrested by the team led by sub-inspector Saravana Kumar yesterday morning during a vehicle inspection in Villikuri.
Anto had been on the run since a case was registered by the cyber police based on a complaint filed by an 18-year-old girl from Pechipara. He was hiding in Wayanad and heading towards Nagercoil on the instructions of some priests when he was arrested. Another priest was also found to be with him.
After being interrogated by the cybercrime department, Anto was subjected to a medical examination at the Asaripallam Medical College Hospital. Police officials revealed that lewd pictures of 80 women were found in his laptop and that he may face charges under the POCSO Act if there are pictures of girls below 18.
The police have urged victims subjected to sexual harassment to file a complaint, assuring them that their information will be kept confidential.
