The international film festival of India, IFFI, is going ahead full throttle in Goa. Delegates have enjoyed almost a week of films and filmmaking activities.
A Masterclass on The Art of Visual Effects was conducted this afternoon by National award-winning Visual effects designer, V Srinivas Mohan. He has worked for films like 2.0 and Baahubali. He was addressing an audience full of film students as he told them about modern techniques. In the film 2.0, the virtual camera was used and operated remotely to get stunning effects.
Keep your imagination alive, he said, he tells actors. At the same time, audiences should not see or feel the vfx, but only the movie output. Mohan walked through the entire process involved in his job. From Script narration and shot division, to Visualizing the is the first step. Then come the Drawing and storyboard. He said, it is necessary to get the Director’s vision right on paper.
A very important technique is Pre-visualisation. Though not always used, it is a rough animation done for camera angles and layout for difficult scenes. In the end, comes the On location execution after all departments know their job. In this context, the job of the lighting department is a real challenge because of the use of the green screen.
