The husband of Perambra native pregnant woman Athira, who had moved the Supreme Court demanding evacuation from UAE amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Nithin Chandran, died in Mumbai on Monday.
As per reports Nithin died of a heart attack. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding this.
28-year-old Nithin was an engineer in Dubai and an active member of INCAS youth wing. He was an active face in COVID-19 prevention activities and blood donation camps.
Athira had approached the Supreme Court requesting evacuation of pregnant women like her from foreign countries. This received a lot of media attention in both India and UAE. Athira, approached the apex court through INCAS youth wing.
In her petition, she said that she will not be able to travel after the first half of May and requested to permit travel facilities for pregnant women to return home. Athira’s return ticket was sponsored by Shafi Parambil MLA. Her delivery is expected in July first week.
The procedures to repatriate the body to Kerala have begun.
