The State Bank of India, India’s largest bank has penned down plans to get rid of the plastic debit cards in the future to withdraw cash out of ATM machines. This phase-out could happen within the next five years and given the massive number of customers SBI caters to, other banks may soon start following its lead and the debit card could be history.
Here is how you process a transaction without a debit card:
Download the app and log in by entering either your Net banking user ID and password or MPIN (Mobile banking Personal Identification number).
Apart from using the mobile app, you can also access the cash withdrawal process via SBI YONO website by entering either your Net banking user ID and password (https://www.sbiyono.sbi/). The service consists of two-factor authentication.
6-digit cash pin for the transaction which you need to enter on your YONO app
6-digit reference number which you get as an SMS and have to enter at the ATM
Initiate the cash withdrawal process through the YONO app or website by entering a six-digit YONO cash pin for the transaction.
You will receive a 6-digit reference number, which you need to enter at the nearest SBI ATM within the time limit of 30 minutes to complete the cash withdrawal. If you do not do this within 30 minutes, the reference code will expire.
In the above process, you can withdraw cash from an ATM without using a debit card. However, if you want to transfer money to a person (beneficiary) who does not have a savings account with the bank, you can do that too. Further, the beneficiary can also make cardless cash withdrawals from an SBI ATM.
But before that, you (the sender) need to register the beneficiary by entering his/her mobile number, name and address into your SBI Net banking account. Once the beneficiary is added, you can make the necessary transfer of payment.
The beneficiary will receive an SMS verification code on his/her mobile number. And by entering the same code at the selected SBI ATMs, the beneficiary can withdraw whole amount in a single transaction without using a debit card. Do keep in mind that partial withdrawals are not allowed, i.e., they will have withdraw the transferred amount in one go.
Thus, in case of SBI, you can withdraw cash without card from an ATM yourself as well as transfer money to any other person who can withdraw it as cash from a SBI ATM without using his/her card.
