Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting today with senior officials to review the preparedness and measures taken to tackle the flood situation in major flood prone river basins in different parts of the country. He directed officials to develop a well-planned scheme to reduce flooding and minimize loss of lives and property.
The Home Minister emphasized on better co-ordination to have a permanent system for forecasting of floods and rise in water levels in major catchment zones of the country. Mr. Shah instructed officials for timely action to provide permanent solutions to the perennial flood problems in Bihar, UP and North-Eastern States. In order to ensure timely releases of water and prevention of flood, Mr. Shah directed the Ministry of Jal Shakti and Central Water Commission to review & assess the data on real storage capacity of major dams.
