The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rain in central and north Kerala on Tuesday. Based on this, yellow alert has been issued in seven districts including Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) urged everyone to take precautions as there were chances of flooding. KSDMA has warned those residing in low lying, landslide prone and hilly areas to exercise caution.
KSDMA urged the public to avoid gathering on over-bridges to take selfies and avoid travelling to hilly areas. KSDMA has also warned people residing in coastal regions to stay alert to sea attacks.
The IMD also warned of strong winds reaching speeds up to 55 kilometres in Kerala, Lakshadweep and Karnataka coast. Fishermen have been refrained from venturing into sea until further notification.
