Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja stated that Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan did not criticize the COVID prevention activities in Kerala.
He stated that large gatherings will increase the risk of COVID transmission and that it should be a lesson for other states. KK Shailaja dismissed news reports that the Union Health Minister criticized Kerala for having the worst disease prevention activities.
“The Union Minister has appreciated the state from the beginning by saying that Kerala’s actions have been the most scientific. He gave good support and appreciated the state beyond politics. When asked about the media reports that quoted him saying that Kerala had the worst disease prevention activities, he said that he did not mean it in that way,” KK Shailaja said.
“Large gatherings should be avoided as part of COVID prevention activities. However, people gathered in large numbers as part of Onam festivities. After this, Kerala witnessed a spike in the number of cases. The Union Minister said that as the festive season is round the corner, gathering of people should be avoided.” KK Shailaja said and added that she completely agrees to the Union Minister’s statement.
Shailaja said that she pointed out to the Union Minister that Kerala has the lowest death rate among all the states. She added that the Union Minister promised to rectify the misunderstanding caused by tweets regarding Kerala.
