A thousand litres of ‘palpayasam’ was made and offered to Lord Guruvayurappan in a two-tonne four-eared giant ‘varpu’ (cooking vessel), which the temple received as an offering. The payasam(sacred pudding) was prepared using 800 litres of milk, 100 kg of rice and 200 kg of sugar for a period of more than two hours. Yesterday was the eighth day of the temple festival. After the ritualistic offering, the payasam was distributed to the devotees.
Kizhiyedam Vasudevan Namboothiri, Cheruthayyoor Ajith Namboothiri, Meledam Padmanabhan Namboothiri, Kizhiyedam Vasunni Namboothiri, Moothedam Anand Namboothiri, Kodakkad Raman Namboothiri and Thiruvalur Vishnu Namboothiri prepared the payasam. Kodalvallimana KK Parameswaran Namboothiri from Palakkad offered the cast to the deity on Sunday. The giant cooking vessel, which is placed in front of the Koothambalam inside the temple walls, is seventeen and a half feet in diameter.
