In order to ensure public safety, the union government asked the states to make drinking water standards mandatory for tap water. Talking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of providing tap water to all households, Mr Paswan said BIS, which sets quality standards for piped water, has a huge role to play in this regard.
The Bureau of Indian Standards, BIS, must take the lead in making global standards and benchmarks, the minister said. He also said that it should look for ways and means to become synonymous with trust and quality. He was speaking at an event in New Delhi today on the occasion of World Standards Day.
Mr Pawsan asked officials to suitably highlight their work and also spread more awareness among the masses about BIS and quality products. He appreciated the efforts of all BIS officials and said that India has some of the best laboratories in the world.
