Nihan Jewellery, located at 9th Cross, Malleswaram, is reeling from a catastrophic incident where gold worth Rs 2.5 crores, along with cash and furniture, were reportedly washed away during the recent heavy rains that pounded the city. Approximately 80 percent of the store’s jewellery, money, and fixtures were swept away in the deluge. The unexpected rush of rainwater inundated the shop as its shutters remained open.
According to sources, as rainwater rapidly flooded the premises, the store quickly filled up with water and debris, prompting the owner and employees to evacuate. The forceful flow of water caused the gold ornaments displayed in the showcases to be swept away. The situation worsened when the back door of the showroom was forced open by the surging water, resulting in the loss of all the collected gold.
The jewellery store had amassed a significant amount of gold as part of its first anniversary celebrations. In the wake of the incident, the owner alleged that despite seeking assistance from corporation officials, no help was provided. The recent renovation of drains and gutters in the area also came under scrutiny, with the owner attributing the extensive damage to the unscientific construction of these systems.
The devastating loss incurred by Nihan Jewellery serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability faced by businesses and residents during heavy rainfall. It highlights the need for robust infrastructure and comprehensive disaster management strategies to mitigate such risks effectively.
The owner and employees are now left grappling with the aftermath of the incident, as efforts are underway to assess the extent of the damage and explore possibilities for recovery. It is a challenging time for the affected individuals, who not only face significant financial setbacks but also the emotional toll of witnessing their hard work and dreams washed away in an instant.
