Taking a cue from Left-Liberals, Shilpa Singh, an assistant professor of Political Science at VM Salgaocar College of Law, Panaji, Goa, who is accused of hurting Hindu sentiments, is now playing victim card. When aggrieved Hindus filed a case against her, Singh filed a counter complaint with the Goa Police, saying she was being “criminally intimidated and harassed” for making slanderous comments on Hindu Dharma on social media.
Earlier, ABVP activists had complained that Singh made comments that promoted “socially hateful thoughts about a particular religion, community and group of people”.
ABVP’s Konkan unit joint secretary Prabha Naik had written to VM Salgaocar College of Law seeking action against the assistant professor who was indoctrinating Left and anti-Hindu ideology to students of Political Science in her online lecture. The ABVP has threatened to start “a severe agitation against the institution” if it fails to take action. In a written reply to ABVP, the college authorities said that “it’s not possible”.
Later, one Ravi Jha, a resident of Ponda in South Goa, filed a case against her. Jha alleged that Singh had “deliberately and intentionally used social media platform to hurt religious feelings and sentiments of people following Hindu religion”.
The complaint filed with the Cyber Cell of the Goa Police, cited the Facebook post by the academic on April 21,that criticises consverative traditions in Hinduism.
After she was caught red-handed, Singh filed a counter complaint in the Porvorim police station, in which she accused Jha of intimidation. She stated that Jha had threatened to rape her lynch her.
She stated: “The accused has intended to insult my modesty as a woman under section 509 through the actions of sharing screenshots, writing the Facebook post and ‘liking’ hateful comments in his Facebook post, against my person. The constant attack and vilification has caused immeasurable mental agony to me.”
