No one in this world can make you happy until and unless you yourself decide to be happy. Life could be happier if we are ready to give up certain habits.
Give up your past: Many of us hold on to so many bitter experiences in the past with a great level of stress and suffering. Hence it is very important to give up your past whatever it is. Sometimes the past looks so much better than the present. In such situations you have to realise the fact that the present moment is all you have. As a wise man once said “The past is already gone, the future is not yet here. There’s only one moment for you to live, and that is the present moment”. Always keep this in mind and along with that have a clear vision for your life and prepare for it which helps more clarity around the future.
Give up Perfectionism: If you want to be happy or satisfied with your life, you should give up unrealistic standards of perfection. Perfectionism can be a healthy trait. But it destroys happiness when it’s taken to the extreme. A study published in the Journal of Consumer Psychology, found that a “must have the best” mindset can magnify feelings of regret and dissatisfaction. For example if a person uses past mistakes as positive learning points to be better we can say it as healthy perfectionism. On the other hand if perfectionism is at extreme, persons feel regret over things that are long past.
Give up on expecting appreciation from others:Expecting appreciation from others for your good deeds definitely pull down your happiness. If you are doing great things you should take the time to recognise it.Do journaling. Write your accomplishments or prepare a picture collage of the same. Go through it everyday. This activity helps you to boost your happiness as well as confidence.
Give up Negative Self Talk:Research shows the average person speaks at least 7,000 words a day, with many speaking much more than that.Analyse yourself whether you engage in negative or positive self-talk which has a strong impact on your happiness. So it is essential to give up negative self talk and practice positive affirmations. When we choose positive thoughts it reflects back to us a life filled with happiness and success.
Give up the delay to be happy: Most of us have the habit of waiting for the perfect day to come to do something to enjoy. Give up the delay to be happy. Because if you keep waiting for that perfect day,it will never arrive. Stop procrastinating and do the things that give you joy. The 5 second rule by Mel Robbins can help you stop procrastination. The rule is simple.Count 5-4-3-2-1 to bring awareness to your mind and immediately act.The moment you have an instinct to act on a goal, you must act on it immediately (or within five seconds). Otherwise your brain will be prone to procrastination
The source of happiness is within us.You may need to give up several things to become happy. Learn to notice and appreciate the good things in ourselves and everything around us.
