Beating the Retreat ceremony, marking the culmination of four day long Republic Day celebrations is currently underway at the historic Vijay Chowk in New Delhi.
Indian tunes are the flavour of the ceremony this year. President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, MoS Defence Shripad Naik, Chief of Defence Staff and chief of three services are present at the ceremony.
Bands from Army, Navy, Air Force and State Police and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF ) are presenting their captivating and foot-tapping music at Vijay Chowk which is enthralling the spectators. Fifteen Military Bands, 16 Pipe and Drums Band from Regimental Centres and Battalions are participating in the ceremony.
Beating the Retreat marks a centuries-old military tradition when the troops ceased fighting, sheathed their arms and withdrew from the battlefield and returned to the camps at sunset at the sounding of the Retreat.
