Finally Consumers Hit Grocery Shop to Buy Cheaper Onions

Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs Ram Vilas Paswan has said that the prices of onion have started cooling down in both retail and wholesale markets in some parts of the country after the government banned exports of the key kitchen staple and imposed stock limits on traders.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Mr. Paswan said, out of the Central buffer stock of 56 thousand tonnes of onion, the portion of 18 thousand tonnes has been disposed off and that about 15 thousand tonnes has dried owing to moisture loss.

The Minister said, the government still has 25 thousand tonnes of onion in its stock and states are being asked to take and supply at 23.90 rupees per kilogram in their areas and ensure prices are stable.
