The central leadership had shocked the Congress leadership in Kerala by nominating Srinivasan Krishnan for the Rajya Sabha seat from Kerala. Meanwhile, KPCC president K Sudhakaran met Rahul Gandhi today to discuss M Liju’s candidature.
It is learned that Liju’s name is under consideration. KV Thomas had already expressed his ambition for the position. Now, Congress national spokesperson Shama Mohammad has demanded that a woman be sent to the Rajya Sabha.
Shama spoke about this in a channel discussion. There has not been a single woman MP from Kerala for the last forty years. Shama said all other states are giving seats to women. At the same time, the main demand of the Kerala leadership is to consider the youth for the position.
They cite the fact that candidates of the CPM and the CPI are young. If a woman is considered to the position, Bindu Krishna and Shanimol Usman could be the likely candidates. Satheesan Pacheni and VT Balram could be preferred if the youth is the criteria for the post.
The names of senior leaders Mullappally P Ramachandran and MM Hasan also came up. Though it was suggested that the seat should be given to the CMP, it is unlikely at present.
