In a scathing attack on ruling CPI(M) government and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, BJP state president K Surendran alleged that COVID-19 is being used as an excuse to postpone the election as the government and the opposition find it hard to face the public.
“Postponement of the election is a political necessity for the government and the opposition,” he said addressing the press meet. “The decision to hold an all-party meeting was taken only after the government and the opposition came into an understanding of the issue prior to the meeting,” he added.
Earlier, BJP had maintained its position from the beginning that conducting the bypolls in Chavara and Kuttanad constituencies is impractical. However, BJP also believes that the local self-government polls should not be postponed due to this. Surendran pointed out that the Election Commission of India may also arrive at the same conclusion.
