Union Minister of Science & Technology, Health and Family Welfare and Earth Science Dr. Harsh Vardhan today said that public health should be a subject that needs thorough rejuvenation in India. Dr. Harsh Vardhan was speaking after inaugurating a New Institutional Campus at the National Institute of Public Health Training & Research (NIPHTR) at Navi Mumbai this afternoon.
In his keynote address, the minister said that under Narendra Modi’s leadership the centre has significantly developed the healthcare delivery system in the country in the last six years. He added that the centre has also a robust surveillance system with the help of WHO. Speaking about other initiatives in the health sector taken by Modi Government the Minister informed that in the last six years of the Modi Government, the centre is in the process of having another 157 medical colleges across the country. Dr. Harsh Vardhan also stated that the centre has d over 80 thousand MBBS seats and has improved strength of medical colleges and paramedics and allied health services, public health and mechanism.
He informed that in the first cabinet meeting, the centre had decided to start at least 75 medical colleges in those areas where malnutrition cases are mostly reported. He said that in sustainable development and reduction of maternal mortality rates, India under Modi’s regime has achieved more than expectations. He also added that today India has a very robust Ayushman Bharat Programs under which 86 lakhs patients have been enrolled.
Speaking about Centre’s precautionary measures over recently spreading Coronavirus, the Minister said that centre has success handled epidemics like Ebola and Nipa in the recent past. He added that a similar manner high precaution is being taken to stop Corona from entering into India. He informed that over 4 lakh people were screened at the airport to check Corona Virus and around 20 thousand people were taken care of by the central level medical team.
