West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi tomorrow. The meeting perhaps for Mamta is crucial for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is all set to arrest Rajib Kumar, Kolkata police ex-commissioner who has ‘vanished’ following the court order that lets CBI to arrest him in Saradha Chit Fund Scam.
Prior to leaving for the National Capital, Ms. Banerjee said at the Kolkata Airport that she will raise some pertinent issues with the Prime Minister which include changing the name of the State, the merger of public sector banks, issues of Air India, BSNL and releasing of funds that are due to the State.
This is the first meeting between the two leaders after Mr. Modi became Prime Minister for the second term. The meeting comes in the milieu when the CBI has sought whereabouts of Mamta’s close-aid Rajib Kumar whom Kolkata police informed incommunicado.
The Director-General of Police Mr. Veerendra reportedly communicated to the CBI that Rajib Kumar is on leave till 25th of this month but his mobile phone is not reachable and State Police could not establish any contact with him.
The CBI Officials went to the State Secretariat in Kolkata again and delivered letters addressed to the Chief Secretary and Home Secretary seeking information on Kumar as he is not appearing before the agency for ongoing probe in Saradha Chit Fund Scam.
The order of the Calcutta High Court withdrawing protection against arrest to Rajib Kumar was also attached with the letters.
