RRR’s Naatu Naatu song created history by winning the Best Original Song award at the Oscars, making it the first song from an Indian production to win the prestigious award. However, soon after the victory, rumours started circulating that director SS Rajamouli had spent a whopping Rs 80 crores on the film’s campaign for the awards season.
Recently, the film’s producer, DVV Danayya, addressed these rumours in an interview with Telugu 360. He stated that he had not spent any money on the campaign and was unaware of what had transpired. Danayya also dismissed the possibility of anyone spending such a massive amount on an award event, given the lack of profits involved.
Additionally, there were reports that only a select few members of the RRR team were given free tickets to attend the Oscars. According to these rumours, Chandrabose and MM Keeravaani, along with their spouses, were the only ones who received complimentary passes. Meanwhile, SS Rajamouli, Ram Charan, and Jr NTR had to pay $25,000 (around Rs 20 lakh) to attend the event.
However, the RRR team has refuted these reports, stating that they are entirely false. The Oscars was attended by several members of the RRR team, including SS Rajamouli, Ram Charan, wife Upasana Konidela, Jr NTR, MM Keeravaani, Chandrabose, Naatu Naatu singers Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj, among others.
Despite the rumours, RRR’s win at the Oscars remains a moment of immense pride for the nation. The film, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, was one of the most anticipated releases of 2021 and lived up to its massive expectations. Winning an Oscar for its music only added to the film’s reputation as a blockbuster hit.
