Delhi Police has booked Delhi Minority Commission chairman Zafarul Islam Khan for sedition after provocative and communal remarks on the social media triggered a national outrage. An FIR has been registered against him by Delhi Police Special Cell.
Acting on a complaint by a Vasant Kunj resident, the police booked the Delhi Minority Commission chairman under several sections of the Indian Penal Code — 124 A (sedition) and 153 A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc,). In a highly controversial statement on Twitter, Khan had celebrated the selective Islamic onslaught of Hindus working in the Gulf.
Khan on April 28 had threatened Hindus in his post by saying “Mind you, bigots, Indian Muslims have opted until now not to complain to the Arab and Muslim world about your hate campaigns and lynchings and riots. The day they are pushed to do that, bigots will face an avalanche.”
However, the Delhi Minorities Commission’s chief on Friday had apologised for his controversial remark and had said that he never tried to tarnish the image of India. He also removed the controversial post from the social media. Certain Left-Liberal outfits and NGOs suspected to be funded by Islamic radicals had attacked the critics of Khan.
The National Commission for Minorities Chairman Syed Ghayorul Hasan Rizvi had condemned the statement of Khan and sought stern action against him, as the latter’s statement might lead to communal polarisation in the country.
