The Customs officers recovered 6 bags suspected to used in smuggling gold, from the flat of the gold smuggling case suspect and former IT secretary M Sivasankar. As per reports, diplomatic stickers on three of the bags were partially removed and the stickers on two others were completely removed.
A similar type of bag was also found from the private flat owned by Sivasankar in Heather Tower near Secretariat Cantonment Gate. However, it is not confirmd if the bag was used by the smugglers. Other bags were recovered from the houses of Sandeep Nair and Sarith. It has to be verified if the bags were the same ones found in the CCTV footage.
Meanwhile, the Customs also found the details of the house which Swapna planned to construct at Thiruvananthapuram. She had planned to spend Rs 5 crore for the 4500 square feet house. The source of income of this money also will be investigated, the Customs said.
The Customs officials visited Sivasankar’s flat on Friday and Saturday. The visitors’ register and camera visuals were collected on Friday. The caretaker of the flat was taken for interrogation on Saturday. The statement was recorded at the GST Commissioner’ office.
