A woman worker of the CPI(M) and her 10-year-old son were brutally assaulted by her male party colleagues for criticizing Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his Sabarimala policy. Nima, secretary of the local CITU unit and leader of the CPM–controlled Tailors Union in Nedumangadu, Thiruvananthapuram, and her son are undergoing treatment in a hospital. Doctors said the victims received serious wounds in the attack.
According to reports, she posted a message criticizing the government’s policy on Sabarimala policy. Speaking to the media from her hospital bed, Nima said wanted the traditions in Sabarimala to be protected. She also said she was not ready to compromise on the matters of faith. Her son told the media how the CPI(M) goons attacked him and his mother. He could even disclose the names of most of the attackers.
