In the wake of mounting covid-19 cases in Delhi, the Central government has decided to put its act together to control the situation. The Arvind Kejriwal government has failed to rise to occasion, triggering a healthcare catastrophe-like situation in the National Capital. There was huge paucity of beds and people had to depend on private hospitals who exploited hapless people by charging exorbitant fees.
Meanwhile, in an all-party meeting called by Union Home Amit Shah, it was decided to reduce the fee of coronavirus testing. This will be huge relief for people who are suffering from corona infection. The appeal was made by BJP Delhi state unit chief Adesh Kumar Gupta.
According to Gupta, Shah has asked the Delhi government to conduct 18,000 corona tests a day from June 20. The patients who test positive will be provided with medical care. This way the spread can be checked, said Gupta.
Gupta said his party has demanded to reduce the fee for beds in private hospitals. Taking note of the suggestion, the Home Minister constituted a committee which will submit a report within two days. On the recommendation of the committee, the government may put a cap on medical fee charged by private hospitals.
Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, AAP leader Sanjay Singh said there was a proposal to increase 1,900 beds in Delhi government hospitals and 2,000 beds in Central government hospitals. In private hospitals, 1,178 beds will be added. According to him, 8,000 beds will be added by railways by converting railway coaches into isolation wards. Thus, total 16,000 beds will be added in the next few days, said Singh.
Delhi Pradesh Congress chief Anil Chaudhary said the AAP government has been holding private hospitals responsible for the mess it created.
