The Indian film industry is in a state of jubilation after the blockbuster track ‘Naatu Naatu’ from the film ‘RRR’ made history by winning Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards. However, not everyone is convinced that the song is deserving of such a prestigious accolade.
National Award-winning actor Ananya Chatterjee has taken to social media to express her doubts about the song’s worthiness. In a Facebook post following the win, Chatterjee wrote, “I don’t understand, do I have to feel proud about ‘Naatu Naatu’? Where are we headed? Why is everyone quiet? Is this the best we have in our repertoire?????? Raises indignation!!!!”
Chatterjee’s comment has been met with fierce backlash on social media, with many users accusing her of jealousy and attempting to seek publicity. Some even suggested that she focus on making good movies instead of criticizing the work of others.
Despite the criticism, there are others who have joined Chatterjee in questioning the Academy’s decision to award ‘Naatu Naatu’ the Best Original Song. Many have pointed out that the song beat out heavyweights like Lady Gaga and Rihanna, who were also nominated in the same category.
