Citizenship Amendment Act will be implemented, says JP Nadda

BJP working president J P Nadda today asserted that the Citizenship Amendment Act will be implemented. Mr Nadda told this to reporters in New Delhi after meeting Sikh refugees from Afghanistan, who under the amended act will become Indian citizens.

He also criticised the opposition for protesting against the new legislation. He accused the opposition parties of protesting for vote bank politics while ignoring the plight of minorities of three neighbouring countries living in India.

The BJP also posted on its twitter handle a 2003 video clip of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh who had made the speech in Rajya Sabha advocating to adopt a most liberal approach to grant citizenship to minorities of neighbouring countries.

Meanwhile, the Congress has accused the NDA government of muzzling the voice of people. Party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, the more the government tries to suppress the voice of people, the louder it will become.
