The Koorachund police are set to record the secret statement of a Russian woman who attempted suicide, accusing her male friend of torture. The statement will be presented before the magistrate on Saturday. The accused, Aakhil (27), has been remanded in police custody for 14 days.
According to the injured woman’s statement, Aakhil sexually harassed and assaulted her, beat her with an iron rod, and detained her without allowing her to return home. She also claimed that she was forced to use drugs. The police have recovered three grams of ganja from Aakhil’s house, and a case has been registered against him for possession of an intoxicating substance.
The 27-year-old Russian woman is currently being treated at the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital. The woman had escaped from Aakhil’s house to a nearby shop and told the locals that she wanted to save herself before jumping from the terrace. The police arrived at the scene and admitted the woman to the hospital.
The police revealed that the two had met through Instagram. The woman came to India via Nepal after meeting Aakhil, who was in Qatar. They had been travelling together and had recently reached their home in Koorachund.
The woman, who only knows Russian, recorded her statement at the hospital with the help of an interpreter. She is currently under police surveillance in the hospital ward. The investigation has revealed that they have visas to stay in India till February 2024. However, before that, it has been decided to send the young woman back to Russia. The woman has stated that her passport was destroyed by Aakhil, and the consulate authorities will grant a temporary passport.
Meanwhile, the Women’s Commission has voluntarily filed a case against the Russian girl and sought a report from Perampra DYSP. They have requested that the report be submitted as soon as possible.
