Samajwadi Party Member Azam Khan on Monday apologized to BJP MP Rama Devi for his unparliamentary and mongynstic comment against her during the Lok Sabha proceedings while she was on the Chair last week.
Soon after the Lok Sabha assembled for the day, Speaker Om Birla asked Khan, an MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur, to speak on the issue. Azam Khan is known for filthy and sexist remarks against women.
Khan had earlier regretted that his statement was misread by people and he did not say anything that was unparliamentary. He said: “I had no such intention for the Chair… Whole House knows my speech and conduct. Despite that if Chair feels that I had done any mistake then I apologize for that.”
Participating in a discussion on the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019 on July 25, Khan made a remark directed at Rama Devi, drawing objections from members. Members had demanded strong action against the member.
