A prominent Saudi scholar, Prof. Safouq Al-Shammari has suggested that Israel should attack Iranian assets if Hamas continues to strike Israel. According to him, such a step would help both Israel and Arab countries and also put an end to needless fighting instigated by Iran.
Prof Safouq expressed his opinion in an article titled “Netanyahu, I Have a Proposal for You,” appeared on May 27 in a prominent media outlet. According to the academic, Israel contributes to the stability of the region and plays a vital role in confronting Iran’s growing military power, Al-Shammari stresses that Israel’s focus should be on the head – i.e. on Iran – and not on the tail – i.e. Hamas. Such focus, he explains, will cause Iran to restrain Hamas, thus ending the rocket attacks on Israel and restoring Israel’s deterrent power. Furthermore, Israel will gain international and Arab support as the one combating the destruction sown in the region by Iran, according to a report in MEMRI website.
