At 75, Ammaji may have lost all her teeth, but her dreams remain undiminished. The adage “age is just a number” is universally recognized and embraced, and countless individuals have demonstrated its truth time and again.
Abha Sharma’s life narrative epitomizes the notion that there is no predefined age to pursue one’s dreams. From a young age, the now 75-year-old harbored a singular aspiration—to become an actor. However, her parents, particularly her mother, vehemently opposed her ambition. Conceding to familial pressure, Abha relinquished her dream and embarked on a career in teaching.
Abha’s life took an unexpected turn when she developed a gum infection at 35, resulting in the loss of her teeth. Her challenges were compounded at 45 when she was afflicted with a rare condition causing tremors in her limbs.
Despite these setbacks, Abha’s zest for life remained undiminished. At 54, following her mother’s passing, she resolved to revive her acting dream. This decision marked the beginning of her journey in theater in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
Her acting received significant acclaim, bolstering her confidence to pursue opportunities in Mumbai. Initially securing roles in small advertisements, she eventually landed the role of ‘Ammaji’ in the web series Panchayat. Her portrayal has been widely praised by audiences.
“If you have even a hint of passion for something, pursue it. I truly hope God supports every artist as He has supported me,” says Ammaji.
