Chennai: Amidst the chaos surrounding hordes of people thronging Kanchipuram to have a glimpse of Lord Athi Varadar a deity who is taken out of water only once in 40 years , Vimala, one of the devotees who visited the Sri Varadaraja Perumal temple, delivered a healthy male baby, weighing 3 kg, at the 16-pillar mandapam.
It was while waiting in the queue for the darshan, a native of Nemilipanavaram, the 25-year-old pregnant woman, wife of Ashok Kumar, had labour pain. She was rushed by the devotees to the medical team deployed at the mandapam. With the help of Dr Jansirani S and nurse Yogavalli, Vimala delivered of a male baby at the 16-pillar mandapam itself.
The baby is named after the deity Aadi Athi Varadar as per the request of the devotees who considered it is a rare birth. The lady was later shifted to Kanchipuram Government District Hospital.
Varadharaja Perumal Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is located in the holy city of Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, India. The uniqueness of the temple is the wooden idol is taken out of the holy waters only once in 40 years. Earlier a number of dignitaries include President Ram Nath Kovind had visited the temple.
Darshan of Lord Athi Varadar at the Devarajaswamy temple in Kancheepuram district will come to an end today, with the 48-day festival drawing to a close on August 17.
