A teacher from Kanubenahalli government school, Shantamurthy, has been suspended by the education department for expressing criticism against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on social media. The department has also initiated a departmental inquiry into the matter.
Shantamurthy took to social media to voice his opinions and critique the government’s five-year popular promises. Referring to a report on the public debt of the government since the time of former Chief Minister Krishna, he alleged that the highest debt was accumulated during Siddaramaiah’s first tenure. The post further claimed that Siddaramaiah has a history of burdening the state with debt and is resorting to the same approach to fulfill popular promises this time as well.
The social media post gained traction quickly, drawing the attention of the Education Department. Citing a violation of discipline required of government employees as per the Karnataka Service Rules, the department took action against the teacher.
