The rising tension along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China as a result of the Chinese incursions into Indian territory has roused an unprecedented anti-China sentiment in the country. Following social activist Sonam Wangchuk’s video calling for boycott of Chinese software, hardware and gadgets, millions of people have started dumping Chine-made products.
In the meanwhile, a Jaipur-based tech company has brought out an app, ‘Remove China Apps’ which became an instant hit with millions of people downloading it. The app detects Chinese apps installed on the user’s phone and provides them with simple steps to uninstall them from their handsets. The rising popularity of this app is evident: it is ranked #2 on the list of top free apps on Google Play Store, has a stellar 4.8-star rating, and has already crossed a million downloads at the time of writing.
The app is presently available only on Android phones and not for iOS-powered devices such as iPhones and iPads. Although it can be used to delete Chinese apps, it cannot delete pre-installed Chinese apps.
Swadeshi Jagaran Manch has also given a call to boycott Chinese products. It has launched a campaign to take forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Atmanirbhar drive.
