In a recent case of honey trapping and extortion in Kerala, a woman has been arrested for allegedly extorting money from a 65-year-old man. The Perinthalmanna police took Puthamkodan Sabanath (37), a resident of Dhagekode Melekappuparam, into custody.
Both Sabanath and the victim were produced before the court and subsequently remanded. The complaint was filed by a resident of Aliparum who claimed that the woman, along with five others, had stolen two lakh rupees from his possession. According to the victim’s statement, he received a call on his mobile phone from the young woman, who invited him to her residence. The incident occurred on the night of March 18.
Upon reaching the woman’s house, a group of five individuals reportedly threatened and intimidated the victim, capturing video footage and photos using their mobile phones. It is alleged that money was extorted from the victim by blackmailing him with the threat of spreading the compromising content on social media and tarnishing his reputation. Two individuals involved in the incident, Peerali Shabirali (36) from Aliparum Vattaparam and Jamshad (22) from Thaekode Bitathi Thaikot, were remanded the previous day.
In an interesting turn of events, the arrested woman had previously filed a complaint against the 65-year-old man. According to her complaint, he had forcefully entered her residence on the night of March 17 and attempted to humiliate her. The police have registered a separate case based on her allegations.
