Oscar-winning Animation filmmaker Michaël Dudok de Wit said that Animation films are a very effective medium to present critical issues in our surroundings. He was speaking at an interactive session on animation films on the third day of the ongoing Mumbai International Film Festival 2020 for Documentaries, Animation and short films. De Wit said, worldwide there is a misconception that animation film depicts only for a light-hearted comedy. Referring to a famous animated film ‘Zero Immunity’ the filmmaker said that the film portrayed serious social issues like sexual harassment. He added that it is all about the creativity of the maker that decides the scope of any genre of the film.
While the third day of the MIFF 2020 also offered the views bunch of documentaries flicks from India and abroad.
The documentary filmmakers also shared their experiences with media and film lovers before the screening of their films. Director Choodie Shivram of the film ‘At the Altar of India’s Freedom INA veterans of Malaysia’ said that her film is about veterans who fought for India’s freedom struggle away from India. She said that this is a period film and its story revolves around the situation of south East Asia during the 1940’s. Director Dylan Mohan Gray while talking about his film ‘ From Durban to Tomorrow ’ said that the documentary revolves around the give leads who are working for the movement for health care and human rights.
Oscar-nominated animation film ” The Breadwinner” from Ireland is much talked about the film to be screened this evening at MIFF 2020. Directed by Nora Twomey, the animated film depicts an inspiring and luminously animated tale about the power of stories to sustain hope and carry us through dark times.
Besides, there will be a screening of films from the European Union this evening.
During the day, the SRFTI package of student films was inaugurated by renowned filmmaker Amit Zankar. A lively session on Documentary on OTT Platform with Ms. Adita Jain from Docubay, which also included a B2B discussion with filmmakers, was held in the afternoon.
