Home Minister Amit Shah today said that India attaches special importance to Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and always stands for the help of disaster-affected countries.
Mr. Shah was addressing the opening session of SCO Joint Exercise on Urban Earthquake Search and Rescue 2019 in New Delhi. He further said that India has launched Geostationary Satellite to improve communication, weather forecasting, etc. among the South Asian countries.
Home Minister emphasized the need for collective efforts to reduce the loss from disasters. Citing the example of the recent storm FANI, Mr Shah said that India has been able to reduce the damage from many natural disasters to a great extent due to the advanced early warning system.
The objective of the proposed simulation is to practice and strengthen the national and international response, coordination protocols and methodologies in a major earthquake scenario requiring international assistance.
All member countries of SCO including India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are exposed to a range of natural and man-made disasters like earthquake, flood, storms and landslides. Starting from today this exercise will continue till 7th of this month.
