The Allahabad High Court in Friday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a stay on ‘Bhumi pujan’ before construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. A Delhi-based activist Saket Gokhale on Thursday filed the PIL by stating that the event is a violation of the guidelines laid out to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
Gokhale had stated on the ground-breaking ceremony several dignitaries including the Prime Minister will be present which is a defiance of the counter-Covid rules laid out by the Centre and Union Home Ministry.
A bench led by Chief Justice Govind Mathur dismissed the petition after observing that, “The entire petition for writ is based on assumptions and there is no foundation for apprehending violation of the prescribed protocol”.
The auspicious ceremony is scheduled on August 5 where Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be laying the foundation stone of the Ram Temple.
