Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has said that along with the fight against COVID-19, Assam government is putting emphasis on resuming economic activities. He said that farmers have shown the way forward in this regard.
Talking to media persons in Guwahati, Mr. Sonowal said that farmers and agri entrepreneurs did business worth 357 crore rupees during the lockdown period by exporting agricultural products to various parts of the country. Mr. Sonowal said that the state has immense potential in the agricultural sector which was highlighted by the lockdown period.
Urging youth to take up farming as a means of self-employment, the Chief Minister said that agriculture holds the key in providing employment opportunities to the state’s youth returning from outside. He also stressed on the need to capture the markets of the North East region with Assam’s agricultural products and to penetrate markets of neighbouring South East Asian countries.
