Sunil, an RSS worker from Kerala, was hacked to death at this house on December 4, 1995. Subrahmanian, brother of Sunil, also was hacked by the criminals and he lost his left hand in the attack. The police tortured some persons and added them as accused in the case after 11 days. They were CPM followers Biji, Baburaj and Jaison.
The court imprisoned them for 10 years. Later, the Crime Branch raised some suspicion and investigated further. They found that the members of terrorist outfit Jamiyyathul Ishanya were responsible for the murder. With this, the high court acquitted Biji, Baburaj, Jaison and others.
Subrahmanian who gave testimony against the trio is meeting them again after 25 years. “The police forced us to give statement against you,” Subrahmanian said in a sad tone. The terrorists who barged into their house at night murdered Sunil, who was only 19 years old then. His parents and brother also were attacked.
They chopped the ear of his mother and fingers of father. However, the family could not identify the culprits at night. Later, they were made to say the names of those suggested by the police.
However, the truth was brought to light after years. None of the acquitted persons have any dislike towards Sunil’s family. But they have complaints against the acts of police.
The Guruvayur police had destroyed the case diary to stop further probe. No action was taken against the five members of Jamiyyathul Ishanya who were found to be the real culprits.
