The second batch of 25 foreign envoys from European Union and Gulf countries will visit Jammu today. They will meet Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu and top officials of the union territory. The batch includes envoys from Germany, Canada, France, New Zealand, Mexico, Italy, Afghanistan, Austria, Uzbekistan, Poland, as well as envoys of the European Union.
Yesterday, they visited Srinagar to get first-hand information about the ground situation after the abrogation of Article 370 in August last year. The delegation reached Srinagar yesterday as part of their two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. They met Kashmiri traders, businesswomen and entrepreneurs and discussed various issues related trade and tourism in the Union Territory. The delegation also met civil society members, sportspersons and many youth besides having a detailed meeting with media persons including editors of several local newspapers. In the evening, they met a delegation of politicians. Senior officials of the union territory and army briefed the envoys about the present security scenario.
The delegation took a Shikara ride on the famous Dal Lake. In a tweet, Afghanistan envoy, Tahir Qudiry, praised the hospitality of Kashmiri people.
Earlier, a team of 15 envoys, including US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster, paid a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir in January.
The Central Government abrogated Article 370 and bifurcated the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state into union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on 5th of August, 2019.
