A Bangladesh Armed Forces contingent has arrived in India to participate in Republic Day Parade 2021.
This is the first time ever that a Bangladeshi contingent is taking part in India’s Republic Day parade.
The 122-member contingent was airlifted from Dhaka on an Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft.
The Bangladeshi contingent is being led by Colonel Md Mohtashim Hyder Chowdhury, and includes a marching contingent and a military band.
What makes the contingent’s participation special is the fact that the year marks 50th-anniversary celebrations of the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh.
The Indian Army took to Twitter to post, “Together we fought, together we march. Tune in on 26 Jan 21 for the splendid parade.”
In a statement, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka said that this is “only the third time in 70 odd years of our Republic that has a foreign military contingent participate in our parade”.
The contingent will visit historical sites in Agra and Ajmer on January 28 and 29 before their departure home.
