In a shocking incident, a minor girl in Hyderabad was forcibly married on her 12th birthday to her 35-year-old uncle. The victim fled from the room where her parents were making arrangements for the first night, said the report.
According to police, all the guests present on the occasion had been invited on the pretext that it was her birthday party. None of them was reportedly aware that a marriage was to be performed.
On realising that she would be married off, the young girl defied her parents’ will. The petrified victim fled from the room where her parents were making arrangements for the first night.
Though the parents managed to bring her back, the same night she fled the home again, seeking shelter she finally reached an Anganwadi teacher, who alerted Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).
Police said that an investigation into the incident is underway adding that they will book a case against the victim’s parents and the ‘groom’ uncle under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.”
