A 11-month-old calf that produces milk has become the centre of attraction of many in Kerala. Owner of the calf says that he has been milking the calf for the last 15 days and receiving as much as 5.5 litres a day.
The calf belongs to MV Sajesh of north Malabar region in Kerala. He bought a jersey cow and calf in July 2021. But, soon the cow died of swollen udder. Later, he started to feed the calf with ragi, peanuts and cattle feed.
He revealed that he has been milking his calf for the last 15 days. He received 3 litres of milk in the first week and in the second week, he could milk 5.5 litres. When he gave the milk sample to examine at the society, he found 8.8 per cent of fat and 8.5 SNF (Solids-Not-Fat) in it, similar to buffalo milk.
People have started to flock to the cattle shed of Sajesh to see the mysterious phenomenon, where a calf that had not delivered, gives milk. According to experts, it is very rare for a calf to produce milk, especially in such a considerable quantity.
